Sherri Pie Shimmy
I've really wanted to draw a burly girl lately. This, my friends, is Sherri Pie. Her little shimmy is the best around.
Color version coming soon.

Ariel Dallas Multipass Under the Sea
For The Fifth Element theme, I chose to draw Ariel as Leeloo and Flounder as Korben Dallas. I chose this interpretation in honor of the 25th anniversary of The Little Mermaid, my wife's favorite Disney movie. I thought this would be a fun way to incorporate the weekly theme and the anniversary of The Little Mermaid.

What are you doing Nov. 30th?
Oh, you're going to Genghis Con, you say? Good!
This small press and underground comic convention is going to be fantastic. There are so many great artists including yours truly and my fellow Scribble Nerd, Ashley Ribblett! There is no admission fee this year, and it's in a new location! The Lake Erie Building a.k.a. The Screw Factory is going to be a great venue for this show.

WHAT? Cleveland's premier small press and underground comic convention!
WHERE? The Lake Erie Building (The Screw Factory) map Rib Shack and I will be at tables 5 and 6 with Angela Oster and Tim Switalski!
WHEN? Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 2 pm-7 pm
WHY? To grab some freebies, and buy some cool art and comics from Cleveland's finest.

Weekly Challenge: PIE!
AHHHHHHH!!! So guess what guys? It's pie week on Scribble Nerds! I am so excited! This is me right now:
Yeah, I get excited about pie. Like, so excited I had used to have a blog where I would make a new pie once a week. I did it for 2 years. My wallet and waistline didn't care for my shenanigans, so I went on an indefinite hiatus. I'm really excited to get back into the pie game with this week's drawing challenge.
I would love it super forever if you guys joined in the fun. There is not nearly enough pie art in this world. Let's change that! Soooooo:
Scribble Nerds of the World, Assemble!
If you like our weekly challenges and want to join in the fun, then put pencil to paper and submit your great creations to be featured here on the blog! (Really! Check in on Friday to see your stuff)
All we need is a jpg of your art, your name, what challenge your submitting and (optionally) a brief statement telling a little about yourself and your scribble. We're happy to link to your instagram, tumblr, whatever the kids are using these days. Send your submissions to:scribblenerdsart@gmail.com!

Fifth Element: Work In progress + Sketches.
Hey there! Just a little late sunday night post from Shawny!
Since this week's challenge was The Fifth Element, I was inspired to do a big illustration for it.
So instead of having a finished piece, here is some of the sketches I've done. I'll eventually do a line drawing and then finish the rest in Illustrator. I've also included some sketches of other fifth element work that I'm currently working on as well!
This is my usual process when working on projects. Bunch of random sketches, then the rough, rough draft, where I make dumb notes! This usually works for me!
Leeloo will be the next lady in my sweethearts project!
And finally I really love the Flight Stewardess' outfits in the movie, so here's a couple of sketches of them too!

Leeloo Dallas!
This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. No shame. I love how goofy it is, and it totally knows it. How could I resist drawing Leeloo? Ugh. I need to do a glorious painting of her.

Leeloo's Multi Pass
Hi all, Mark here!
This week's theme is the 90's movie "The Fifth Element".
The film features a "Multi Pass", which is like a combo passport, credit card & ID. I did a cute version of the Multi Pass used by Leeloo, since my impulse to cute-ify things can't ever be ignored. Sorry, not sorry.

Leeloo doesn't really act like this in the film, but I wanted to draw a chibi Milla Jovovich, dammit |
Also, I originally did line-work for a more realistic version of Leeloo, featured below.

A Tribute for Armanda.
Dealing with the death of a loved one is hard. There is no real words, no way to express yourself when you lose someone dearly to you.
When I lost my father earlier this year, I went into a deep depression. Everything that brought me joy didn't and I felt myself falling into a hole that I could never get out.
So I started to read. ALOT. When I was younger I loved quotes. I'd read anything that talked about overcoming obstacles and inspirational words of wisdom. I'd write them all over my sketchbooks and journals. They brought me comfort and made me think of the important things that matter. So I started to look for quotes and stories of loss and ended up finding ones that really stuck with me. Dealing with my father's death became easier once I started to focus on the memories rather than the loss.
So when it came to doing a tribute for Ashley's friend Armanda, I decided to go with something that brought me some comfort and helped me learn what is truly important after you lose someone.
These quote reminds us of what really matters, celebrating the life and remembering that even though they are gone, they are never truly loss to you. Their lives will continue through you and your memories of them. Rest in peace, Armanda.

For Armanda
I never got the chance to meet Armanda McCafferty, but from Ashley's description, she seemed like a really amazing person. My deepest sympathies to her friends, and family. I wish her peace.

Hummingbird Tribute
Hi all, Mark here.
Today's post is a special tribute--
fellow Scribble Nerd Ashley's dear friend Armanda recently passed away, and as a group we each decided to illustrate a special piece in her memory. I did not know Armanda, but I have learned from Ashley's writing that Armanda was a positive, compassionate, and very loving person. She had liked the idea of a hummingbird and daisy for a tattoo, so my tribute features my take on those those two things. I feel that the energy and beauty of a hummingbird is a fitting tribute for such a special person.

Hummingbird Dreams
Sadly, I never had the honor of meeting Armanda. My
connection to her has simply been through the loving and passionate words of
the wonderful Ashley Ribblett. Armanda dreamed of one day getting a tattoo of a
humming bird flitting around a daisy and hopefully I’ve created something she
would have enjoyed.
I choose to honor Armanda's memory by creating something colorful and overflowing with life and movement, so I've included some close-ups to showcase the energy of this piece.

throwback to good days
this is a throwback from my sketchbook around September of 2 years ago. It was one of many rarer good days and we spent it eating crepes, sipping pumpkin lattes and makin' a sketch for a friend. The cafe is La Petite Triangle.
Weekly Challenge SPECIAL: Remembering Armanda McCafferty 11/30/84-11/05/14
Hey folks, this is your fellow scribble nerd Ashley here taking over for Dee this week to bring you a very special challenge: my best friend Armanda.
Armanda has been my best friend for a little over 10 years and after fighting a very miserable and painful illness for the last 5 she finally let go and passed away Wednesday morning.
It's difficult for me to find things to say about her that don't sound like some cliche Hallmark card.
She was one of the truest, goodest, most kind hearted people I've ever met. She valued every single person she ever knew. Even through some of her darkest times she still put on a smile and tried to make the day brighter for the people who cared for her both in and out of the hospital. Her good nature was infectious even to a hardened asshole like me.
We used to joke often about how conflicting our natures were and how by all means we shouldn't be friends, but ended up with a bond closer than most sisters. Not a day went by when I visited, despite the pain she was in, where she didn't inquire about my well-being or what new things I had going with my art projects.
Well babe, now you're one of 'em.
It's not much, but I hope I can at least honor the memory of you and all you've done for me.
Thank you Scribble Nerds, my friends, for putting pencil to paper and helping out a nerd in need.
(All challenges will be put up on display during Friday's wake)

The Latest Ish
Just some stuff that's been rattling around lately. The Nerds and I were at Oddmall last weekend which gave me a little look into my merchandise. What sells, what doesn't, what randomly flicks in and out of existence. The tiny universe that is a convention is a really strange place. Anyway, here's a random smattering of little art poops I've had in the last few weeks.
