GOOOOOD Morning, Vietnam

It really was hard to make a choice when deciding on which incredible Robin Williams character to draw for this weeks challenge. There are so many Genie, Peter Pan, Popeye, Alan Parish, Parry, Jack, Mork, Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams, and the list of incredible characters brought to life by him goes on. I ended up going with Adrian Cronauer from Gooooooood Morning, Vietnam. He brought so many laughs, so much happiness and memories to so many. Thank you, Robin Williams you are missed.

In the jungle you must wait until the dice read 5 or 8

Jumanji. Both terrifying and the coolest movie as a kid. If I ever hear drums when I come across a board game, I'm running.

Mark Self Portrait~ Puppet style

Hi all, Mark here!
Today I'm doing the self portrait challenge!

I have puppets on the brain lately, so I jokingly doodled this drawing at 4 in the morning & then laughed until I cried.  I just lose it over those derpy little frogs.

Mork From Ork!

It was hard choosing a Robin Williams character to draw since there are so many good ones.  In the end it was Mork's upbeat attitude and rainbow suspenders that won me over.  Enjoy!

Shawny. With a Y.

Here's my self portrait for this weeks challenge!
I really like purple.
My sister saw this and told me to make the boobs bigger...Nope. I don't want my boobs taking up the whole illustration!

Nope.

I occasionally hit ruts in my creativity. I been trying to shake free of the latest one the last few days. It usually stems from frustration in my current working method. These brief ruts are irritating as hell, but are really a good thing. They lead to what I consider a large leap forward in my abilities. It's an odd way to work. I annoy and frustrate myself into getting better. With some recent changes in my living and working situations these weird lulls and leaps will normalize to a more stable progression towards awesomeness.

Kaiju Minis

Hi all, Mark here!
Today's piece is about "kaiju", which are giant or strange monsters.

Kaiju tend to be dark, fearsome & gritty, so I decided to portray them as cute, bright and colorful.  This  illustration would be a logo for a mobile app game where you fight as cute kaiju.  (I would play the hell out of this game)

Fun fact:  I originally drew these out in a different style, before changing to the cute style I adore.  This is how the monsters originally looked:
(Somewhat of a 'Pokemon' vibe here)

Fan Friday!

Hey everyone! Every week we invite our fans and friends to participate in the drawing challenges we do. I have been neglectful the last couple weeks, so I'm doing some catch up here. If you want to submit your art, send it to scribblenerdsart@gmail.com with any information you care to add. If you have sent art and it hasn't popped up yet, let us know on our Facebook page, so we can iron out any issues.

Here are 2 from Danny Limor! He did the Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy challenges with a funny Batman playing the drums and a great, disgruntled Groot!

And Tim Switalski did the Kaiju challenge with the nightmare inducing cute Godzilla!

Keep 'em coming guys! These are great!

Gaziwwa and a little dose of nightmare fuel

Making monsters cute is so much fun. While I was working on a cute Godzilla (or as I have renamed him, Gaziwwa,) my boyfriend who is also an artist told me I needed to be truer to the original Godzilla design. I told him I didn't know what to do about it. Making it any more "authentic" swung it waaaaaay into the creepy end of the spectrum. He wanted to give it a try, so I handed over my sketchbook.

Five minutes of a weirdo indie movie on Netflix later, I receive the drawing below, and a dejected sounding "Sorry. You can erase it." I certainly will not! This is the creepiest version of a cute monster I have ever laid eyes on. He is a self-declared novice of cute art, but that's ok because this may be the terrifying cute monster I've ever seen.

Kaiju + Drax got back

Hey citizens! Ashley here playing catch up from last week so you get two goodies today!

last week was Guardians of the Galaxy and I scribbled a bootylicious Drax for ya during Drink N Draw:
jury's still out though on whether that crack is whack

this week is "Kaiju" or monster and my original sketch is a throw back now updated digitally with some bangin' color! I remember watching a documentary on PBS one time about the human brain and how it interprets images. What was really interesting is how the brain can't stand or is deeply unnerved by even the slightest discrepancy in normal facial features.

I think about that a lot sometimes

so here's a funny drawing about that!
name me ONE good taco joint in France

as always swing by my blarrrgh for more weird stuff!

I AM GROOT!

Hi all, Mark here!
This week I'm playing catch up for last week's challenge, "Guardians of the Galaxy"!
"Guardians" is a damn fine flick, full of exciting, memorable characters.
For the challenge I drew the kind-hearted, tree-like Groot!

Valus the Colossus

Godzilla and the Kaiju from Pacific Rim are super awesome, but my kind of Kaiju are of the video game variety.  One of my favorite games is Shadow of the Colossus and The First Colossus, Valus is a favorite of mine.  Enjoy!

Best Part of the Movie!

Before I saw Guardians of the Galaxy wednesday, I was going to draw a full team action illustration, but then I saw the movie and fell in love with:

The whole movie was great and all, but you can't beat a baby tree dancing to Jackson 5. Nope. No way.

Be prepared for some more GOTG fan art coming soon!

AWESOME MIX VOL. 1

Guardians of the Galaxy is now one of my top favorite movies of all time. All of the characters were great, but I liked Star-Lord, Peter Quill, the most. This piece captures one of my favorite scenes in the movie with Peter singing, "Come and Get Your Love," from his Awesome Mix Vol. 1 tape. I hope you enjoy my first contribution to the Scribble Nerds. I really had fun with this week's theme, Guardians of the Galaxy.

I am Groot!

Groot has found a special place in my heart. I get the feeling that the lovable dummy is making far more profound statements with his "I am Groot"s than we are lead to believe.

Gunnm.

The first manga I ever read was "Battle Angel Alita" (Gunnm).  I was still pretty into western superhero comics when I was 15/16 but that all changed when I started hanging out at the library. Around that time Manga was just really starting to pop up more in the US and the library that I frequent had  a pretty good collection. Since I was already into Cowboy Bebop and Akira animes, I went hunting for  mangas and I wasn't let down.
Battle Angel  was full of sci-fi, violence and chaos, all lead by a sweet faced cyborg. It was glorious.
So here are a few sketches of Alita. I'm going to put these through illustrator but couldn't in time for this challenge! In time though!

Street fashion at it's finest

I have to admit, I kind of have a little thing for fashion, especially street fashion. I used to get Shojo Beat magazine as a kid and every once in a while they would do a feature on Japanese street fashion. Before the days of fashion blogs and trend trackers, these articles were the best part of the magazine. I instantly fell in love with the incredibly unique fashions of the Shibuya and Harajuku districts.

A lot of what I absorbed from those photos informed how I dress even to this day. The whimsical mixing and matching of patterns, textures, silhouettes, and materials is addictive. With a few exceptions of the more strict subcultures, a lot of the fashion I like comes with the "I wear what I want" vibe. Crazy random pieces come together to make a cohesive look. As Dee said to me once, "The don't give a fuck attitude is an accessory all it's own."
