Frankie's monster seems a little bored with this mundane life of grunting and being misunderstood. It's not a phase. This is who he is, mom.

Creature From the Black Lagoon!
Hi all, Mark here!
This week's theme is Scary Movie Monsters, so today's piece is all about the Creature From the Black Lagoon!
Water (and the things that live in water) have always been a little alien to us, so a fish man is right up there on the Uncanny Valley. Happy Halloween!

Oddmall! Oddmall! Oddmall!
Have we mentioned we're going to be at Oddmall this weekend? Oh, you'd like to hear about it again?
What? Oddmall: Emporium of the Weird is a convention/fair for all things, art, craft, fandom, and fun. This is the first Hallowonderous Edition aaaaaaand the first 2 day long event. (Whaaaaaaat?) Yeah. It's gonna be awesome.
Who? Us. The Scribble Nerds. That's why you're here, right? That's right! The illustrious Scribble Nerds will be at Oddmall for all of your awesome artist made goods. We will have so much good stuff, it's silly to list it here. You'll need to see it all for yourself.
Where? It's being held in the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron, OH next to the art museum (If that sweetens the pot for any of you high class types.) Here's a map to the center. When you get there, we will be across from the Other Oddmall stage (click the pic to get a closer look) in booths 200 and 212. That's right. There will be so much good stuff we need 2 booths!
When? November 1st and 2nd! The two days after Halloween! All Saints Day. Dia de los Muertos. National Bison Day. National Deep Fried Clams Day. National Vinegar Day. National Deviled Egg Day! All of these things could be celebrated with us at Oddmall! Doors open at 12 and you get kicked out at 6!

Why? Why? WHY?? Because you love us more than anything in this world! The thought of not seeing us at our first convention as a group keeps you up at night and cleaves at your very soul! Or, you just want to see a bunch of cool stuff from cool vendors and performers.
DID WE MENTION IT'S FREEEEEEEEE? Because it is. There is no cover charge to get in and witness the madness. So, come on out and be ya bad self. Check out Oddmall's website for more info because there is so much more going on than what we mentioned.
The Bride of Fankenstein
I had so much trouble deciding who to draw for this challenge, but the bride has such a beautiful design that I couldn't help myself. Now I need to find an excuse to draw my runner up, AudreyII.

The Slacker Zombie of all time!
When it came to zombies, "Shaun of the Dead" was the first thing that popped into my head. Mainly because it gave me an excuse to make some movie posters!
This movie has been out awhile, so I hope this isn't going to be a spoiler! :D

I decided to illustrate the lovable Zombie Ed!
I also created one with a background. Don't know how much I like this one.
Here's the original sketch.
I can't wait for my first ever art event with the group! Don't forget to check out Oddmall this weekend! It's going to be great!

White Zombie
The original movie zombie was not a gory, terrifying, undead monster. It was a woman under the power of Bela Lugosi's voodoo spell. I wanted to make a disgusting monster, but this came out instead. I must have used all my gore chips on something else. I rather prefer this anyway.

Zombie Love!
Hi all, Mark here!
The theme of the week is Zombies! I am not a zombie fan, so when tasked with making zombie art, I thought, 'Could a guy zombie be love-struck over a cute girl zombie?' The answer: HELL YES.
Enjoy!

Scribbles in the News!
So, we've been making the rounds on some news outlets with Carol and John's Anti-Bullying sticker campaign. We just wanted to say thank you to our friends at Carol and John's for this awesome experience. We have had so much fun creating art for an important cause. Bullying has touched all our lives in one way or another, and we could not be happier to be making a difference.

They gotta have a place to store all their stuff!
For my Ghostbuster piece, I decided to illustrate the Ghostbuster headquarters. This is the result!
I like vectorizing buildings, so this was pretty fun to do. Expect another famous building/house in the near future!

3 of your 7 favorite artists will be showing their spooky Halloween art in this show. Come to the opening!
Ghost Bustin' Inktober
The month of October is certainly a busy one. Halloween art abounds, and you have every excuse to knock out some fan art. Inktober has been keeping me on my toes. An ink drawing a day can be daunting, but I've been giving myself mini challenges. This week was Ghostbusters Inktober with a trading card triptych.

Chibi Ghostbusters Logo!
Hi all, Mark here!
The theme this week is Ghostbusters!
Of all the movie's positives qualities-- great casting, stunning special effects, sharp humor-- I think I like the Ghostbusters logo most of all. It's so simple, sleek, and creative, I just knew I wanted to take a stab at it. Enjoy my chibi, super iconic take on this classic!

Why Am I Drippings With Goo?
While getting inspired to do this piece I watched some episodes of The Real Ghostbusters. I soon found myself obsessed with Egon's crazy hair. Is that a bouffant? I never know what to call it. Anyway, Slimer decided to show up, and this happened.

Weekly Challenge: Who Ya Gonna Call?
I think a lot of us could say that we learned some of our
most important life lessons form Ghostbusters.
We’re all a bit wiser for knowing who to call, that crossing the streams
is a bad idea, and what to say when someone asks if you’re a god. So this week the Scribble Nerds will be
paying tribute to that cinematic wonder, Ghostbusters.

Halloween Monster Sneak Peek!
Hi all, Mark here!
I have a love-hate relationship with Halloween. Basically, I hate how much I love it.
This week's theme is Classic Halloween, so I decided to do a fun group shot of the main Halloween monsters. This piece can't be revealed in full right now, as it is part of a local art show on the 17th! Instead, today I'm coming at you with a special sneak peek. The full piece will be posted after the show goes live!

Shadowcat and Lockheed for Anti-Bullying!
My contribution to the Bully Awareness month!
It doesn't take much not to be a bully, but it takes courage and respect to be a hero! Bullying is never the answer and it doesn't make you cool, it makes you a mean and hurtful person. Something I think no one wants to be!
As being Mutants in an Anti-Mutant world, Shadowcat and Lockheed (though he's an alien) know first hand the problems with bullies and understand the importance of awareness!

Guardians of Anti-Bullying
Bullying is a serious issue that gets overlooked far too often. Everyone has faced bullying at some point in their life and witnessed someone else being bullied. That is when a choice must be made to either stand by or help take a stand against bullying. I am happy and proud to support Anti-bullying month with my fellow Scribble Nerds, Marvel and Carol & John's Comic Shop. To show characters overcoming their own demons with bullying, I chose a couple characters from Guardians of the Galaxy. Throughout the movie these characters bullied each other. It took awhile but by the end Drax realizes that he had been a bully to Rocket, just like Rocket realized he had bullied Groot. Bullying is something no one should have to deal with. It isn't always a black eye or something visible, sometimes it can be worse like the hurt you can't see.
So like the Guardians who realized their wrong ways...
BE A HERO, NOT A BULLY.
Friday, October 3, 2014
Spider Gwen wants you to be a hero.
Bullying strikes a very hot nerve for me. It makes me grit my teeth to this day. Bullying is never, NEVER, ok. No matter how insignificant it may seem, bullying can destroy people. I was lucky enough to survive the bullying I endured as a kid, but some people I knew were not so fortunate. Before I climb to high up on my soapbox, let me just remind you to think before you speak. If you can't say something nice, don't say it. If you can't do something nice, don't do it. Bullying has to stop.
Heroes like Spider Woman know this and do their part to help. Now it's your turn. If you see bullying, be a hero and do something to help stop it.
Pick this and 6 other stickers up at Carol and John's Comics.

Bullying Awareness-- Nightcrawler Edition!
Hi all, Mark here!
I'm a huge Nightcrawler fan, so for Bullying Awareness month, I drew Nightcrawler comforting a young boy. Nightcrawler is arguably one of the compassionate X-Men, and despite his outcast status, he always treats others with kindness. Growing up, I was a very awkward and very nerdy kid, so I know that bullying is a serious issue-- but it doesn't have to be. Be a hero and do your part to prevent bullying! A little kindness towards others goes a long way.

Deadpool: Anti-hero/Anti-Bully
So, I love Deadpool.
A LOT of people love Deadpool for a MULTITUDE of reasons. But the reason I love Deadpool, the reason I think despite his antihero status he represents this sticker just as well as any Avenger, is that at the heart of him is a guy that wants to see the good guys win. A guy with incredibly low self esteem and a lot of hidden vulnerability due to his abusive childhood and living with a disfiguring illness whose favorite hero is Spiderman. Who fanboys out at the chance to team up with the X-Men. Whose one true love is Bea friggin' Arthur.
He's got layers, and ones I think readers of all ages and especially bullied kids can identify with.
Also he breaks the fourth wall and that's, like, hella cool.
oh look at that, more HELLA RAD stuff at my blog!

Be a Hero, Not a Bully She-Hulk Sticker by Henry Pope III
Be a Hero, Not a Bully!
Jennifer "She-Hulk" Walters knows a thing or two about getting bullied and how to fight back! Either in the courtroom or on the streets she's more then capable of hitting her opponent with a powerful OBJECTION!!!
My little contribution to this social effort! Thanks you John Dudas of Carol and John's Comic Shop and the rest of the Scribble Nerd team for putting this together!
