Don't be a bully, bub!

As a shy, overweight nerd who dealt with the occasional bully I only needed to look as far as the spandex-wearing hero’s of my own childhood to find inspiration for my sticker design. Little me had a weakness for X-men trading cards, the cartoon show and comics so I decided to choose characters from my favorite team of mutant do-gooders. For me, Storm and Wolvie always stood out and seemed like an obvious choice as defenders of the “little guy”.

I've also decided to include my sketch, just to showcase a little of my process.

Weekly Challenge: Bullying Awareness Month

October is Bullying Awareness Month, and this week we’ve worked together with a local Cleveland comic shop, and some of our favorite superhero’s, to spread the word of “Be A Hero, Not a Bully”!

All the pieces you see this week will be available as stickers at Carol and John’s Comics this month.  Be sure to drop by and help support this very important cause.

Help support “Stomp Out Bullying!”

Random Dwarfness

I draw the dwarfs from The Hobbit...a lot.  Probably way more than is considered healthy. But anyway, here's a Dwalin piece I'm rather fond of. Enjoy

Sunday Catch-up: Kaiju

Few weeks ago, we had a kaiju challenge that I was really excited for. I'd been playing around with Godzilla ideas for awhile and thought the challenge was perfect. Too bad I took on more than I could and didn't finish on time. But you are in luck! I finished the illustration and it came out better than the original idea.

Here's the version without the gradient on the buildings.

Taking the extra time to flesh this out really made a difference. I'm trying to find a style of my own and this is one piece that really shows how far I'm coming along in terms of digital art. I'm nowhere near where I'd like to be, but I'm getting there, so I'm pretty satisfied with that!

I know you are, but what am I?

Pee Wee Herman was one of my favorite characters growing up. I can pretty much recite Big Top Pee Wee from memory and have a strange appreciation for the wide array of applications for giant underpants. Any other Pee Wee lovers out there in Puppetland?

Nostalgia: Mega Man Edition!

Hi all, Mark here!
The theme this week is favorite nostalgic character, and mine is most definitely Mega Man.

Mega Man is a classic NES video game hero, and to me, the very definition of the early 90's.  I still remember my older brother playing Mega Man 3 when I was only 4, and the art in the Mega Man games inspired me to draw.  One of my earliest memories is when I drew Mega Man on my parents' house with a pen (sorry, mom and dad).

Please enjoy my take on this retro game hero from my childhood!

Weekly Challenge: Unico

When I was little I was totally obsessed with an animated movie called Unico in the Island of Magic...actually I'm still obsessed.  Unico and his strange cast of characters are about as nostalgic as it gets for me.

For the Disney mash-up challenge this week, I did Woody Solo.
He's the root'-ness, toot'-ness scoundrel in the wild, wild galaxy.
Solo's Roundup

American Hero, American Princess

So for this Challenge I choosed to combine America's favorite superhero with America's Princess!
So here is Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)  dressed as Captain America!

She tempts her enemies with delicious bake goods before knocking them out! It works pretty well!

Disney-Marvel Mashup: Sweetly

For my mash-up I combined Vanellope Von Schweetz with Jubilee to create Vanellope Lee - aka Sweetly (or Sweet-Lee).  She creates saccharinly sweet explosions that burst from her fingertips! Enjoy!

Weekly Challenge: Disney Mash-Up!

We all know the Disney company has more money than god, but in recent years they’ve also come to own a large chunk of America’s most beloved characters and franchises.  The possibilities are pretty much endless, but let’s smash some of those together and see what happens.
