This week's challenge: 3 Panel Comic

Weekly Challenge: 3 Panel Comic

Sharing a full idea within three simple boxes, truly makes the 3 panel comic an art form all to itself.  It can convey a multitude of emotions from funny to contemplative to completely nonsensical but one thing all short comics share is the need to be right to the point.

Death by Breakfast

What a delicious way to go. I've been rolling this skull thing around for a little while, and decided this week would be the perfect time to debut my little avatars of delicious death. I will be putting these babies up on my society6 page tonight. There will be prints of the individual skulls, and some items will have the patterns below instead. So... GO BUY MY STUFF, GUYS!!!

Fan Friday! Breakfast edition!

Today's art comes in a slightly different form. Scott Pickering had this to say:

"I started taking photos of my sunday brunch/breakfasts as a way to entertain myself. I would go to a diner- order some food- and assemble a face- take a pic. I have been posting these on my facebook page and they are always good for a laugh. here is my latest from last week.
waffles, yogurt, orange and banana slices, sausage.
itsy’s b&b. cle ohio"

Thanks Scott for your funky fresh take on breakfast art! We love it so much!

Want to see your work here? Send your art from current or past weekly challenges with a short description and any related links to scribblenerds @ gmail.com and we will happily post it on Friday!

Animal Breakfast Diner!

Hi all, Mark here!
Today's theme is one I love-- "Breakfast"!

A few years back I did a chicken waitress illustration called "Chicken & Waffles".  I've improved a lot since then, so I thought it'd be fun to redraw the piece in my new style!  The look of this piece was inspired by vintage Nintendo game box art, as well as the art of the Paper Mario games.
I will take any excuse to draw a cute bird girl

Amanda Pig and Her Big Brother Oliver was one of my favorite books growing up. I mean, PIGS. So awesome.  Amanda likes to do things like Oliver, so here they are getting milk mustaches and cookie crumb beards together.

One Childrens book character, and two no, no, no, not for kiddo characters. By Henry Pope III

Happy Birthday!!!

Paddington was one of my favorite cartoons to watch when I was a little kid. Many Moons ago.
But I actually think I got my bears confused when I did this as I was trying to recall a scene of a cartoon bear throwing confetti and saying "Happy Birthday!!!"

I think that was Winnie the Pooh.

Oh well, here's Pink, Nanook and Paddington bringing the party!
And I just turned 40 today.
So the bad memory is already starting!

Pencils, Copic Pen, Prismacolor Markers.
about 3 hours. to complete.

Mermaid Sisters!

Hi all, Mark here!
Today's illustration is for the previous theme, 'Mermaids'.

I love mermaids, so I drew two cute mermaid sisters (a pouty goth and a happy nerd).  They are best friends despite their different personalities.
The art for this was inspired by the Paper Mario video game series.

All jokes aside, this is a perfect representation of the two types of women I'm attracted to

The Jolly Postman

I LOVED the Jolly Postman books when I was little. He'd travel through fairy tale land and deliver letters to classic characters. You could then remove and read the individual letters from envelopes in the book.  It got me wondering who else he might deliver letters to...

I like to to think of this as a very rough much cuter sketch of a more dynamic piece I'd like to do with these characters.  Here's hoping I find the time for that ^_^

Amelia Bedelia and so many mermaids!

OH HEY
So, to start this week off here's a throwback featuring a character I've loved since 2nd grade, when I'd spend my indoor recess time reading books under the big tables in class.

Drop the beat

and for last weeks challenge, a slew of mer-folk!

2015! Year of the Wooden Sheep

Hi all, Mark here!
Today I'm coming at you with a post I missed for the theme "Happy New Year!"

My drawing today celebrates the start of 2015-- in the Chinese Horoscope, 2015 is the Year of the Wooden Sheep (hence the leaf in my pic).  My character design was inspired by the art of the 'Paper Mario' series.  (Nintendo characters are and have always been my biggest influence, artistically)

Happy (belated) New Year!

Mermaid Sketches

For this weeks challenge I ended up creating an awesome sketch in my new sketchbook, only to murk it up somehow! I'm so upset! But it's cool, I'm going to try and redo it but for now here's the sketches and the damaged illustration.

and here's the ruined piece that would've been great!
wish me luck on the redo!

Fan Friday! Merdition!

Woohoo! Two pieces from our friends!

Mer-Wrasslin'

This week got away from me so, I give you a doodle I did a couple months ago. I really want to revisit this idea and clean these cuties up into a finished piece.

Mermaid Cutie

I had a lot of fun working on this piece.  I was originally going to create it digitally, but I was in the mood to get my hands messy.  This piece is a mix of Prismacolor Markers, colored pencils, bleach, and brown micron pens.

Also, boobs.  Because if I lived under the sea and had a rockin' mermaid body (all that swimming is an excellent work out) there is no way in hell I'd put on a seashell bra.  Word. Oh, and she's a goldfish mermaid.
