throwback to good days

this is a throwback from my sketchbook around September of 2 years ago. It was one of many rarer good days and we spent it eating crepes, sipping pumpkin lattes and makin' a sketch for a friend. The cafe is La Petite Triangle.

Veruca the Vampire

So, there is a show coming up on the 17th that Mark, Ashley, and I are all in. Like Mark, I want to keep the full identity of my work somewhat secret. Here is the original sketch of a scrappy little vampire I painted for the show. Come see the finished result at the show!

Here are all those nice little details you need:

Gaziwwa and a little dose of nightmare fuel

Making monsters cute is so much fun. While I was working on a cute Godzilla (or as I have renamed him, Gaziwwa,) my boyfriend who is also an artist told me I needed to be truer to the original Godzilla design. I told him I didn't know what to do about it. Making it any more "authentic" swung it waaaaaay into the creepy end of the spectrum. He wanted to give it a try, so I handed over my sketchbook.

Five minutes of a weirdo indie movie on Netflix later, I receive the drawing below, and a dejected sounding "Sorry. You can erase it." I certainly will not! This is the creepiest version of a cute monster I have ever laid eyes on. He is a self-declared novice of cute art, but that's ok because this may be the terrifying cute monster I've ever seen.

Mark's Monster Art!

Hi all, Mark here!
Today's post is an idea I came up with earlier in the year-- monsters in high school!  It was a fun idea to play with, and good for character design exercise.  Also, I like to show people that I am capable of drawing art that isn't just cute characters.

Here's a close up of the gals--

I straight-up adore Layla's design; I like how small she is compared to the others, and her inverted bob haircut is, to me, extremely cute.   Ceri and Skye also sport unique designs that were a blast to create.

 And here are the guys:

I love how Dax towers over everyone else, and I really like how sad Enoch turned out.  I also enjoyed the sharp look for Jagger's facial features and hair.

Eventually I'd like to color these in Illustrator!

Tell me, who's your favorite of the bunch?

What kind of pickle were you in high school? Click to take the quiz!

Sorry, no quiz here. Just some personified varieties of pickles. I have been very entertained by all of the quizzes flying around social media lately. What high school stereotype are you? (Bet you I get the arty kid!) Which Mesopotamian deity are you? What kind of British Isles cheese are you?  How many goats are you worth? (The goat quiz is real) I can't wait for the day someone does a "what kind of pickle are you" quiz!

Say No to Drugs! Say Yes to Pizza!

A quick little colored pencil sketch from this morning. I really wish I had more time for this one. This week kind of got away from me. Oh well, enjoy some Mikey enjoying some pizza!

Wonder Woman WIP

Hello this is Shawny! This Wonder Woman Challenge is right up my alley! I'm doing a commission piece for a client that is going to be based off his wife for their anniversary.

Here are some really rough sketches.  I'll share the finished piece sometime later this week!

I picked the last pose for the final drawing. Can't wait to show it off!

A NEW CHALLENGER HAS APPEARED i mean logo

So many great logos! Looks like you guys are gonna keep me on my toes.

Anyway, for a introductory my logo is true to the blog in that I scribbled it out in 15 minutes at work and telling of me as an artist.

Meaning there's tentacles in it?

Of course there are.

or i guess there's just the one, really

then OF COURSE I looked at what everyone else was up to and had to do a slap dash rendering in Sai which gets you this nonsense

Scrabble Nards

I don't know how to end posts so

Logo Challenge! Player Clare, Fight!

Alrighty, here goes! Like I said yesterday, this is the new and improved Scribble Nerds. I love everyone else's logos so far. They are all such unique versions. Imagine what will happen when we start pumping out art? Woah-ho-ho! Here is my crack at a logo design. Wha-bam!

Here are some other color scheme I fiddled around with for a hot second:

Kitty Frog Kaiju Thing

*pant pant pant* I have been so busy these last few weeks! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to post my part of our second challenge. My kitty-kaiju creation is terrifying according to my boyfriend, Tyler. It's another one of those drawings I start with the intent to be cute, and it turns creepy. It's a weird phenomenon that I'm sure will happen again over the course of this blog.
